8 Incredible Beaches in Spetses to Get Sun-Kissed

More than likely, if you’re heading to Spetses, you’ll spend at least part of your trip horizontal on a sunbed. I totally support this life choice.

But the beaches in Spetses are surprisingly different. Some are organized with sunbeds and somewhere to grab a bite, while others are completely unorganized, so don’t show up empty-handed.

I explored this classy Saronic island and happened to beach-hop to quite a few of the beaches during my visit. I’ll share what each one is actually like. If you’re still in the mix of planning your trip too, check out my things to do in Spetses for the deets on what I loved on the island.

Beaches in Spetses at a Glance

The beaches in Spetses range from organized spots where you can rent a comfy sunbed and order a snack to quiet stretches where it’s just you, your towel, and whatever else you packed.

One thing I learned during my visit is that the prettiest beach isn’t necessarily the best beach for your day. You gotta think of your beach style, like if you want to do a little trek to get there, shade, or having some service.

This is a quick look at the beaches I visited so you can decide which ones fit your vibe:

Best Spetses Beaches

There really isn’t one beach in Spetses that’s perfect for everyone. Sometimes you want the whole setup: sunbed, umbrella, food, cold drink. On other days, you want ridiculously pretty water and fewer people around.

So I’ve listed all the Spetses beaches I visited, what I liked, what was there, and deets to know before you go.

Agia Marina Beach

Agia Marina Beach in Spetses with white sun loungers, green and white striped umbrellas, palm trees, and people swimming in the calm blue sea.

For an easy beach day without venturing too far from Spetses Town, Agia Marina is your spot. This organized beach is close to town, so you’ll have sunbeds and umbrellas without turning getting there into a whole afternoon activity.

There’s also a restaurant right by the beach, which makes it easy to hang out for a few hours or all day. It’s the beach to swim, eat, then go straight back to doing absolutely nothing, then repeat it all over again exactly how a proper Greek beach day should be.

Agioi Anargyroi Beach

Agioi Anargyroi is located on the western side of the island and is one of the largest beaches on Spetses. So you will have plenty of room to spread your towel. It is a little farther from town, but you’re rewarded with lots of shade once you arrive.

There is a café where you can grab something to eat or drink, which means you don’t have to pack half the kiosk for the day. I’m all for being prepared, but I’d rather carry a beach bag than a small supermarket.

If you’re still figuring out the whole shebang about Spetses for your trip, my island day trips from Athens post has all the info about the Saronic islands you can easily visit from the city.

Kaiki Beach

If your perfect beach day includes a sunbed, good food, and very little effort beyond deciding what to order next, Kaiki Beach is your spot.

There are actually two options here. Kaiki Beach Club is the livelier of the two, with a larger menu and a more beach-club vibe. I ate the dumplings and sushi here because apparently I came to a Greek island and immediately ditched Greek food. No regrets.

Right next door is Aqua Marine, which is much quieter and laid-back. The menu isn’t as wide as Kaiki, but the sunbeds were cheaper.

If you prefer an organized beach where you can comfortably stay for a few hours, Kaiki is one of the best Spetses beaches for making an entire afternoon out of doing very, very little, which is the plan on any Greek island.

Pigadaki Beach

Pigadaki Beach is for those who are perfectly happy swapping sunbeds and beach bars for something a little more low-key. It’s an unorganized beach pretty close to town, so bring what you need, especially water and something for shade, because there isn’t much of it there.

One thing you definitely won’t find at every beach is the old boat sitting near the shore, which gives Pigadaki more character than your standard beach towel-and-turquoise-water situation.

I wouldn’t say this is an all-day beach setup. But if you prefer somewhere quieter without having to travel far, Pigadaki is an easy little escape.

Xilokeriza Beach

Xilokeriza Beach in Spetses tucked into a rocky cove with turquoise water, rows of sunbeds and umbrellas, and boats anchored offshore.

Getting to Xilokeriza Beach is an experience, and by experience I mean there’s a winding dirt road that might have you wondering whether Google Maps is personally attacking you.

Once you make it down, though, Xilokeriza is organized with sunbeds, so you can hang out and swim a bit without immediately thinking about the journey back up.

If navigating the dirt road isn’t your jam, you can also reach Xilokeriza by water taxi. Personally, what better way to arrive at one of the beaches on Spetses than by boat.

Agia Paraskevi Beach

Agia Paraskevi Beach in Spetses with wooden sun loungers and straw umbrellas beneath pine trees overlooking clear turquoise water.

Do you want an organized or unorganized beach? Agia Paraskevi Beach solves that problem for you. gives you a bit of both worlds. In one area, you can throw down your towel and do your own thing; in another, you can grab a sunbed and a cocktail at the beach bar.

I love how this beach sits in a cove surrounded by trees, which gives it a more tucked-away vibe. Plus, there is plenty of natural shade here. Because roasting in the Greek sun like chicken souvlaki is not the souvenir we’re looking for.

So here you can choose how you want to spend the day. Bring your own setup and keep it simple, or grab a sunbed and let someone else handle the rest. If you’re still not sure what to pack, my Greece packing list covers what to bring for beach days and the rest of your trip.

Ligoneri Beach

Ligoneri Beach in Spetses with a pebbled shoreline, clear turquoise water, people swimming, and trees lining the curved bay.

If beautiful water is your main requirement and the extras aren’t a must, Ligoneri Beach should be high on your list. It is unorganized; you won’t arrive to rows of sunbeds and a beach bar greeting you.

What stood out to me here was the water. It’s one of those beaches where the color does the convincing, and sometimes that’s really all you need.

Be sure to pack water, snacks, and whatever else you’ll want while you’re there. Ligoneri suits a simple beach day better than an all-day, fully catered affair.

Agios Mamas Beach

Agios Mamas Beach in Spetses with clear turquoise water beside a white waterfront building, sun loungers, umbrellas, and people swimming.

If you want to go for a swim without spending half the day figuring out how to get there, Agios Mamas Beach will make your life super easy. It’s literally right in Spetses Town, just a short walk from Dapia, so you can squeeze in a swim between exploring, eating, and pretending you’re not going back for your second gelato.

This is also one of the best beaches if you’re planning a day trip to Spetses. You don’t have to use your limited island time traveling across Spetses to take a dip in the water. Have a swim, explore around town, grab lunch by the waterfront, and you can still fit quite a bit into your day.

Agios Mamas is very convenient and makes sense, but I would personally take the trek to other beaches farther around the island if I had a full beach day.

Which Spetses Beach Should You Choose?

With so many beaches on Spetses, the best one really depends on what makes your perfect beach day. Sometimes you want a full sunbed and service; other times all you want is some gorgeous water and not many people on site.

Based on the beaches I visited, here’s where I’d go based on vibes:

  • Best for staying near town: Agia Marina
  • Best for a beach club day: Kaiki Beach
  • Best for a quieter organized option: Aqua Marine
  • Best for shade: Agioi Anargyroi
  • Best for beautiful water: Ligoneri Beach
  • Best for water and scenery: Agia Paraskevi
  • Best for a quick swim or day trip: Agios Mamas
  • Best for getting away from town: Xilokeriza

Please don’t try to visit every beach on the island. Find the one that matches your vibe from above and claim your little patch by the sea. Beach hopping sounds ambitious, but then you find yourself comfortable on a sunbed and moving suddenly feels wildly unnecessary.

How to Get to the Beaches on Spetses

Green e bike with a rear basket parked against a bamboo fence, used for getting around Spetses and visiting beaches.

Once you make it from Athens to Spetses, getting around is different from island hopping somewhere you can just rent a car and drive wherever you please. But in Spetses, cars are heavily restricted, so you can choose to get around on foot, bike, scooter, bus, or water taxi.

I used an e-bike to get around the island, which let me stop at different beaches along the way. I’m usually pretty active when I travel, so biking around and exploring is pretty much my style. But you should know that not every road is a dreamy little coastal ride with little goats on the side of the road, and I definitely had a few words in a few spots.

Water taxis are another option, especially for beaches farther from town. Short beach transfers typically start around €30 to €40, but costs depend on distance and time. You can snag one in Dapia along the harbor; they have a sign posted.

I personally didn’t take a water taxi because I had my e-bike and honestly didn’t find them necessary, but they’re a convenient option if you’d rather spend less time getting there and enjoy a scenic water view on the way.

If you want to keep things easy, Agios Mamas and Agia Marina are your go-to options since they’re closer to town.

FAQs About Visiting Spetses

How Do I Get to Beaches in Spetses?

Depending on which beach in Spetses you plan to visit, you can get there by foot, bike, e-bike, bus, scooter, or water taxi. I got around easily to all the beaches I visited on an e-bike.

Is Spetses Island Worth Visiting?

Totally! Spetses is absolutely worth visiting if you want a Greek island with beautiful beaches, an elegant town, and plenty to do beyond swimming, but not having to rush to see everything. I especially love that you can explore without relying on a car. It also has a different vibe from the Cycladic islands many first-time visitors automatically think of when planning Greece.

Is Spetses a Party Island?

If you’re expecting a party atmosphere like Mykonos, Spetses isn’t your island. So you may wanna skip it. You won’t find beach clubs raging until sunrise. But there are plenty of bars, restaurants, and places around Spetses Town when you’re not ready to call it a night after dinner. This is more about having cocktails at a relaxed bar without sacrificing your peaceful beach day the next morning.

Which Greek Island Has the Nicest Sandy Beaches?

There isn’t one Greek island with the nicest sandy beaches because everyone has different opinions of what ‘nicest’ is to them. Spetses has a mix of beach types, so if long stretches of powdery sand are your thing, I wouldn’t choose it specifically. If beaches are a top priority, I personally think Serifos is hard to beat. My Serifos beaches post has all the favs I visited.

The beaches in Spetses have plenty of options. From sunbeds and sushi to throwing down a towel somewhere quiet, you can pick what you want.

My advice? Don’t turn your vacation into a mission to visit every beach on Spetses. Pick a few that fit your vibe. Greece isn’t going anywhere.

Still not sure if Spetses is the island for you? If Hydra is also on your mind, then my Hydra or Spetses post will help you compare the overall vibe of both islands.
